How do I fix this? Splice??

you can get a piece at HD or lowes that you can slide each side of the wire into and screw together and it punctures the wire and fixes it.

get her boyfriend to fix it

Low voltage wire can be spliced. Use waterproof wire nuts and/or tape the shite out of the wire nuts.

Use waterproof nuts AND tape the shite out of it

I soldered the wire and used heat shrink plus a ton of tape when I had to cut a piece, but it’s buried in some poorly drained soil.

This is the correct answer. I added another 50' of line to mine and spliced it, used the waterproof nuts, and put enough electrical tape on there to make a certified electrician shake his head in disgust

Low voltage can be spliced. I would pickup a piece of heat shrink tubing to cover it. And try to remember where the break was so if lights go out you can check that spot first.
I have done that with my underground fence wire.

Only reason I say or is because the electrical tape isn't the best option, but with low voltage it isn't a huge problem.
The waterproof wirenuts are sufficient from my experience.
