Whirlpool Freezer not making ice

I bought it about 2 years ago and it has stopped making ice. Any ideas on what could cause this?

First thing to look for is if the metal arm on the outside of the ice maker is up or down. If up, it will not make ice.
Again, if up, just flip it down.

How do I check these?

Water line - Does the water dispenser side still operate?
Filter - just change it. If it's never been changed, it's probably time after 2 years.

If you have water dispenser and it’s working then it should be making ice. If you have never changed the filter then you should right away.

The water dispenser does make water, but the pressure seems kind of low.

Yeah then I’d change the filter . I change mine every 4-5 months
Never once had a problem. My Whirlpool if about 4 years old.

Yes as suggested, definitely try changing the filter first if you haven’t done so in a while, my Whirlpool would stop making ice if the filter was not changed sometimes between 6 months and a year, even though it still dispensed water.

Does it have to be a whirlpool filter? I want to do this today and don't know if I will be able to find one.

Home Depot/Lowes should have filters to fit Whirlpool. Bring your old filter or write down the part number.

OK, is there ice currently in the icemaker? If so, I've had it stuck in there to where the arm that removes it would not budge it.
I had to take the icemaker out of the freezer, run hot water over the ice in the tray to get it out and then use a scouring pad and some soap to clean the tray good, then re-install it and it worked like a charm. This is pretty much a temporary fix as I did that 3-4 times over the years.
I wound up replacing the icemaker in mine after about 5 years and have not had any problems since. Maybe it's just time to replace yours now.

No - aftermarket filters are fine to use.

Probably the purple filter at Lowes

Another way to check to see if the filter is causing the problem, just take out the filter and try to make Ice with no filter.
My guess is that the inlet water line is frozen. If it is frozen, turn off the freezer and take out everything and let it "defrost". You can put a light bulb inside or use a hair dryer to speed up the thawing. The wall panels can be easily taken out to see if the coils in the back have ice blocking the coils. I had this problem several years ago. I have not had any problems since then.

Update:
I checked again when I got home and it did make a few pieces of ice. So, it is getting some water but not much. It took a whole day to make about 10 pieces.

I just changed the filter and the water pressure from the dispenser was a lot better. Hopefully that fixed it.

After you change the filter you should let the water dispenser just dispenser dispense a couple of gallons of water to bleed all the air out of the system

Yeah, you hope. Once you’re flush with ice, unload a few bins into that tepid, chlorinated, money pit nobody uses. Remember, no diving.
Can’t wait to hear what else breaks at your house!
