What's wrong with my Kenmore beer fridge?

Model No.:795.79303.901
It's an older fridge that I have out in the garage to keep beer and bait in. Recently the fridge started warming up to the low/mid 40s for a day then dropping back down to 33ish. It'd do this once a month or so and by the time I'd get around to emptying the freezer It'd be cold again. I wasn't that worried because I don't really keep food in it.
Now, it's been warm for the past 3 or 4 days. The compressor sounds like it's running. The freezer is thawing.
Anything I can change/check before hauling it to the dump? I figure I'll order a relay since they're pretty cheap.

Could it be filled with Natural Light?

Hell, it's back down to where it's supposed to be this morning.

Fridges insulate better when they're not empty. Stick two 12 packs in there.
Although one thing confuses me is that temp spike at 5AM; is your clock set right? If I saw that at 4PM, it'd be expected to a degree (har har), but not well before sunrise.

There's a whole pile of beer in the fridge, probably 2 or 3 cases worth. The freezer section had a bunch of cut bream, pig livers, etc so it was pretty full as well.

I was probably checking to see if it thawed

When's the last time you cleaned the coils either under or behind the fridge?
This is a thing many people forget about and if you pull off the front plastic cover under the door in the front and unscrew the cardboard panel off the back you'd likely see the coils covered in dust, pet hair, etc. especially one in a garage.

Never. Can I just blow it off with an air compressor?

It sure can't hurt, especially in a garage. It's not something I'd do inside my house and I use a thin tube that attaches to my vacuum to reach every area and it sucks up dust and pet hair quite easily.

Mine quit awhile back. Changed the defrost timer ($15 on Amazon) because it seemed to go into defrost mode and then not restart. Once I replaced that, it was doing the same thing, but I noticed when I bumped the control panel area with my fist, it would restart, but eventually stop again later.
So, I ordered a $10 thermostat off of amazon and replaced it. Been working fine for the last few months.
Mine is a 1999 model Kenmore with the thermostat and air blend controls at the top of the refrigerator compartment.
Good luck.

Thanks, I'll order a thermostat as well. Have a relay and a defrost timer coming in tomorrow.
