I know we’ve said it before but we would do great business together. We don’t door knock either. Sucks for the guys new in the business as that’s the way I made my referral circle but I give them as many calls as I can that come in. Pretty much only take close friends and family and dole out the rest.
Heck I’ve been to one roof several times. Absolutely no damage. Wear and tear. Did some repairs. Months later he asks me to come out and quote a new roof knowing there was no damage. Sat at his table with he and his wife for 2 hours answering all their questions. They called big blue from down here and got a replacement. I know there was no legitimate damage on that roof

I"m sure OP, like myself, was being tonue in cheek about faking damage or paying under the table.
You don't have to fake the damage. That's why the system is broken. I can guarantee there's been hail recent enough to get pretty much anyone a new roof, and as you likely know, it's not hard to show enough proof to get the claim approved.

Run your race. Stop trying to keep up with the Joneses.

And this why our insurance rates are sky-high!

Ugh. That stings. Doing the right thing doesn't always pay off. But I feel like 90% of homeowners are going to appreciate that and you'll be the one they call back when there is another storm. Still think that way gets you more business in the long run. Maybe not, maybe telling every person you talk to to file a claim no matter what is the way to go, but I just don't like it.

If you get a savvy roofer or public adjuster, they can meet with the adjuster and show them wear and tear and other roof blemishes. If they are persuasive enough or the adjuster is not skilled, they can get a roof approved.
Forget the fact we are in an insurance crisis. Some people in FL are paying 20k a year in premiums for a 300k home.
Get that new roof. You deserve it bro!

Yea we feel the same in giving the people an honest answer instead of pushing a claim on everyone. Tri21 Roofing
