I have had good luck with plants, usually herbs, from Plant Gallery on Airline, Double M on Jefferson Highway, lately Rose Garden Center on the Expressway in Marrero, and Banting's. Rose Garden and Banting's are my favorites, Rose is a couple blocks from where I currently reside, my childhood home, and everything I have bought from them, this season, is growing so well.

Banting's? Pack a lunch, you will be there all day. It is very difficult to leave once you get there.

Anyone know anything about the Nine-Mile Point Nursery about a mile from Banting's?

If you're in S Louisiana you can plant okra or start preparing for a fall garden.

I have a 25 by 35 bed that just got un-waterlogged 2 weeks ago, so I was late to plant. I think I'm gonna wall up the sides and make it a raised bed next year. It seems to be the only way I could get the dirt dry enough to plant at an earlier time.

It is preferable to make raised bed garden plots no more than 4-5 ft. wide and any length long. The purpose of the raised bed is to not walk on the garden soil and tamp it down, and the small width so you can work it from either side.

But a plot starting out as large as yours would cost a good bit to frame up in 4-5 ft. widths. I only have one raised bed that is 4' x 12' x 1' deep and that is where i grow my rood crops like beets, garlic, onions, etc.
