Finsihed our renovation and have landscapers coming soon. Most of the yard is planned out, but I'm not sure what to do btwn the sidewalk and the curb.

Landscaper suggested pavers, but that sounded like an expensive idea. Area is probably 3' x 40', maybe 50'.

Thought about some sort of gravel but thought that might make a mess over time.

Monkey grass was there before but with kids walking over it, that also sounds like a mess.

Any ideas?

Why not just check out what others in the area have done, pick out what you think would work for you and go from there.

Personally, I'd just let grass grow and mow/trim it when needed. That would be over and done with in about 5 minutes a week.

You said kids would be walking over it, maybe some walkable ground cover like blue star creeper?

frick that....Talk about time consuming crap you'd have to do to keep it neat. Trim it to keep the pavers exposed then having to pick up all the trimmings off each individual paver after trimming. That little area is HOURS worth of work on a regular basis to keep it looking good.

Yeah that pic is probably somebody who pays someone else to keep up their landscaping. But for OP with his 3'x50' strip, he can just set his mower height higher and trim it all at once. That's if he wants something besides grass, which is probably the best option. But he was asking for other ideas

Doesn't get a lot of sun.
Does get a lot of foot traffic and sounded like a future mud hole?

Landscaper just suggested jasmine.

Don’t know where you are, but dwarf mondo is hardy and fills in well.

I'm finishing up removing my jasmine now because the guy I bought the house from never kept it tamed. It's a great ground cover and is what they use at LSU, i just got tired of having it everywhere. Smells and looks great when it blooms too

FYI was redoing my driveway post IDA from a combination of the neighbor's old tree causing cracks and Entergy trucks putting in some work on my apron. Wife wanted to look into adding a circle driveway and limestone to add some additional off-street parking. Jefferson Parish nixed the idea because of the location of the utility pole and warned her that if we want to do anything other than grass, we need their approvals. Then immediately said they would deny anything other than grass.
