I'm about to replace my 80 gallon in my garage and with install, I've been quoted 3 prices between $3000 - $3500.

I still think that is high as shite.

I bought a 40 gal short from Ferguson supply for about $750

DIY'd it. Dropped old one from attic and pushed new one up. The pipe handle that others mentioned earlier in the thread is a big help with attic work. I made my own out of a 90, T, and piece of pipe that I threaded through the T into the 90. The T and 90 screw onto the hot and cold taps in the tank.

I would buy from a plumbing supply store and not a big box store. They look the same, but better internals.

Glad I could be of help. I like to say I've got redneck ingenuity. My wife reminds me that I'm not smart, I just grew up broke??

I had mine replaced last week. It was around $2,300 for a 50 gallon heater.

I just replaced 2 50 gallons in the attic at primary residence and rental. Both jobs cost me 1900 each.

All of this depends on location of the water heater

The unit itself is going to be $600-$800

The fitting and material is likely going to be another $100-$200 charge

If the water heater is in a garage or easily assessable location then the labor to replace should be around $400-$600

If it's in an attic and they have to get it up there with a chainfall then anticipate that labor rate being closer to a $1600-$1800

If it's In a tricky location I would ask them if they could price a tankless option and leaving the unit in the attic after it's drained.

You could save a little money and get a better water heater.
