I bought a house last year and I have a ton of trees in my yard. My HOA states that I can't cut trees without replacing and I really don't want to cut them anyways. I don't have thick grass at all and I'm wanting to try to get a good yard. I've limbed up the trees a good bit. A couple of weeks ago I blindly threw some Scott's Bonus S on it. After doing a little research I realize that it would help if I knew the type of grass I have so I could properly care for it. I took a pic of my grass and posted it. Can someone tell me what they think it is? I used an app and it said Zoysia but wasn't sure how accurate that was.

Looks to be St Augustine. Pull up a stolon (“runner”) and compare it to this. If the leaves are opposite each other, it’s St Aug, if alternate centipede.

Definitely not St Aug. Could be centipede.

Not zoysia, my guess is carpetgrass based on how sparse it is in the shade. It looks very similar to centipede, seed heads are very different though. I’m with crawdude, pull some out and post pictures, unfortunately it’s probably a little too early for seed heads, but if you can find one post a pic.

Could be carpetgrass - which looks like St Augustine - easy to ID by the seedhead.

It’s looks like the same centipede I have growing in my yard. It’s definition not St Aug because it’s not wide enough.

I actually just went out of town for a week but I'll look for a seed head and post when I get back. Thanks everyone for the help.

Did you downvote me because we disagree? I zoomed in and follow several blades back to the same node. That would be at aug.

I didn’t down vote you, although I do think you are wrong. I recently planted st aug in parts of my centipede lawn so that it will eventually take over. The narrow tips of the grass blades in his picture indicates it is centipede in my opinion.

I’m just giving you a hard time. It might be centipede as they have a close look in pictures. I think I see v shapes blades so I’m going with st aug
