Noticed this “wet spot” at the bottom of my tree, but it hadn’t rained in awhile. Is this the beginning signs of termite damage?

Those things grow for 1/2 their life and rot out their insides the other 1/2. Cut it down

Google slime-flux. It's a pretty common problem.
You tree truck looks pretty healthy for the most part.

I’m “not allowed to cut it down until we have more shade”. It’s the last tree on the property, going to be putting down another 3 trees this year and hopefully it’ll be gone in a few years

That’s a pretty fair request by who I assume is your wife. It ain’t dead yet, why rush it if you have no other trees or shade?

How close is it to your house? These things have a really bad habit of looking ok but the insides are rotten and they break at the truck and take out a house.

Plant a Chinese elm. That’s a fast growing tree for shade, and I’m pleased with mine so far.

Close enough that if it falls just right insurance will pay to refurb the bathroom we want to redo
But it’ll probably go a little further South and take out the compressor and master bed instead
It’ll be gone in the next few years, just a matter of planning what we want and where we want them.

Noted. Going to work w a landscape person because we are also installing privacy hedges along the back of the yard w a garden in front of it.
Been wanting something like a red maple for color & shade and some Italian cypresses along the back fence line. But, still open minded because I have no idea what will thrive in my environment and yard

It's done for.
Cut it down.

Ida took all my water oaks. Planted Nuttall and Shumard oaks. Have grown triple the size since I planted them. They are deciduous and have nice colors in the fall. Fully grown trees in roughly 15-20 years with a large canopy for shade.
