These little white flowers have started popping up all over my yard the last few weeks. Is it something I should try to take out or this late in the season just not worry about it

Oh man that’s buttonweed. MSM or celcius, multiple sprayings will somewhat control it. Have mercy on you soul.

Well crap! Will the winter kill it out or should I try to attack it now? I’m planning to go with some preemerg soon

If its sporadic you should consider pulling it out by hand. Its like a mat so easier than other weeds like dallisgrass.

Then crush it with Celcius, multiple applications per instructions.

Attack it now. It is as a perennial weed, pre-emergents are not effective against it, but use pre-emergents for other potential annual weeds. Re-spray in 3 weeks.

Yep. It generates a ton of seeds that can stay viable until next year. You think you had it covered and boom it pops up again. Kill it now!

I’m assuming I can get the chemicals needed to kill it at Cleggs?

Yes. Be for-warned Celsius is expensive, though a a bottle will last several years. MSM Turf, Weed-Free-Zone, Atrazine are less expensive.

I think it’s still too hot. I’d wait until until PM temps are in the 80s. Consider the MSM Turf - no temp restriction and a bottle is in the low $20s.

Both are very similar from what I can tell. MSM is cheaper. Celcius will kill carpetgrass as well, MSM will kill Bahia.

Yes - I agree - personally I don’t see any difference between Celsius and MSM Turf with regards to control of VBW. Two additional weeds I have problem with that Celsius will control/suppress, but not MSM Turf, are doveweed and green kyllinga, in addition to the carpetgrass jimbean mentioned. Celsius is 5X more expensive but a bottle will last several + years for a standard size residential lawn. I’m going into my 3rd year on a bottle of Celsius and I’ve used no more than 1/2 the bottle (10,000 sq ft of lawn area).

I tried herbicides with 2,4,D and atrizine and it didn't touch VB. It looks like Celsius might be having an effect but will need to hit it again in 3-4 weeks. It looks like you can treat approximately twice in a year and no more or risk hurting the good stuff? What a Pain and I have a big yard-1.5 acres of this stuff. Think it started with all the rain last year.

I’ve found the Fertilome Weed-Free-Zone to be effective on VBW, in addition to the MSM Turf and Celsius, and I’ll use all three during various times of the year. When the label restricts you to 2 applications per year, use one of the others, but don’t use Weed-Free-Zone when temps exceed the high 80s otherwise it can harm your lawn grass.

In addition to repeat spraying, it’s important to spray when the weed is young, newly emerging. VBW is more difficult to control when mature, and that applies to just about all weeds. So also work on how identify the VBW when young.

I grabbed some MSM turd and sticker stop? ... I think that’s what it was called... today at Cleggs. They recommend using those to together and provided me the recipe for mixing. I’ll give it a shot sometime in the next few days
