H&G Board… looking for some wisdom. This particular weed is taking over my St Aug Lawn at a rapid pace this year. I’ve dealt with this for a while, but it seems to have really advanced this hot & dry summer. In the past my understanding was that this is nutsedge, but I’m not positive.

Can anyone help ID this weed and offer assistance for how to treat?

New Orleans area, st aug lawn

That link doesn’t have a picture of your weed but if it looks like this it’s nutsedge.

Sorry, does this work? The picture you provided looks like it. Is it okay to apply sedgehammer in this heat?

Whatever you do, DO NOT pull it. It will spread like wildfire.

Yes that is nutsedge. I don’t think it’s temperature sensitive. I haven’t used it much at my new house but I sprayed it often on my old St. Aug yard. I have Bermuda and Zoysia and spray two rounds of MSMA in the spring and then follow up throughout the year with Celsius or MSM and Quinclorac for the other weeds that pop up. Probably will jinx myself but I don’t have much sedge in the yard.

Do you find the MSMA yellows your Bermuda for a bit after? My grass is still going so I plan to wait until next year for the pre-emergent and MSMA

I’ve never noticed it on my Bermuda but it does burn my zoysia some. I have just common Bermuda and that shite is tough as nails.
