We’re actually making the same trip this summer. One thing I was wondering. What is the appropriate tipping culture in both London/Paris?

Also, not to hijack this thread, but if anyone has a recommendation for their favorite/historical pub in London we’d love to hear it.
Thanks this is helpful and definitely gives us a lot to think about.

Now I’m wondering if we should give up a day/night in Paris to get over that way. Curious if anyone has any opinions, as we’ve never been to Paris before. I know there’s a lot to do, but is 6 days in just Paris too much? That’s why we were considering the day trip.

Paris Day Trip to Loire Valley - Summer

Heading to Paris with the family this Summer (all adults now).

I’ve been diving through old threads on Paris and the surrounding areas. We’ve identified the Loire Valley as a day trip we definitely want to make. We’re looking to take the bullet train into town then go from there. Head back to Paris that night.

Does anyone have any recommendations for guides/drivers in that area? We’re looking for someone that can pick us up in town and take us around a few Vineyards/Chateaus. Mixed Groups of 6-8 are fine. It seems like if you aren’t staying over night you definitely need someone to get you around.

We got a great recommendation from a bunch of you on TD for Anna’s Cool Tours in Florence when we went years ago. For those that are familiar, we’re looking for something similar to that.

Any and all recommendations for Loire Valley (and other day trips) are appreciated! It’s our first time and we don’t know where to start.
Super helpful as always guys, thank you !
Thanks this is very helpful! After reading both, the symptoms largely resemble Take All Root Rot. especially the part about easy to remove stolons. I'll start with disease X to try and get it under control.

some of the areas seem already beyond repair. what would be the best practice for re-sodding? i dont want to re-sod just to have it occur again.

thanks again.

I’m having a similar issue all the sudden. At first I thought it was the result of the heat and drought, but with the way it is spreading I’m guessing it is something else.

See attached pictures. St Aug, NOLA area

Does this look like the effects of cinch bugs? Any remediation recs?

Sorry, does this work? The picture you provided looks like it. Is it okay to apply sedgehammer in this heat?

Weed ID & Removal Question

H&G Board… looking for some wisdom. This particular weed is taking over my St Aug Lawn at a rapid pace this year. I’ve dealt with this for a while, but it seems to have really advanced this hot & dry summer. In the past my understanding was that this is nutsedge, but I’m not positive.

Can anyone help ID this weed and offer assistance for how to treat?

re: VBW & Celcius

Thanks all of that is helpful advice. Since I’m going after it with the Celcius pretty good, will I have a window for pre-emergent this Fall? Or would I be applying to much stress on the grass in a small period of time?

VBW & Celcius

St Aug lawn in the NOLA area. Have had trouble with VBW in the last but after the hurricane it seemed to spread like wildfire. Applied celcius for the first time 2 weeks ago after following the advice on this board for quite some time. It was mature VBW.

2 weeks later I have some yellowing and it seems to have knocked quite a bit of the various weeds out, but I still have some spots that are flowering. My question is it okay to hit it again this soon for spot spraying? I used the high rate last time, should I do so again this time? I also used surfactant.

TIA!

If that’s not your speed, Marriott actually has several day trips with pick up/drop off from Florence. 2-3 wineries and schedules everything for you. But you are in a group of people so cheaper but not private. Rome by Limo is private

I should clarify we are trying to do this as part of the Florence portion of the trip
We're just in Florence we're three nights, so thinking a day trip to the Tuscan wine country is all we'll be able to manage if we want to see the rest of the florence area

Florence/Tuscany area Vineyard Recs

Going to try our hand at international travel this year with a trip to Italy early October. Looking at an itinerary of Rome - Florence - Venice. We've got a lot of the trip ironed out (thanks to the TD Travel Board), but one thing we are having trouble pinning down is the best way in which to do a day trip to some of the vineyards in the Tuscany region.

I've spent some time sorting through some of the old threads on here looking for ideas, but having a hard time finding consensus on the way of doing it. My wife and I are going for our anniversary, open to any recs. Looking to make a day of it. Is it better to book direct with a vineyard and find a way to organize travel? Anyone had any luck with a specific tour group that organizes the trip and provides transportation? Preferably small group. we don't want to spend all day travelling on a bus. 1 or 2 spots would be plenty. seen some good talk about pairing it with cooking class or horse back riding.

first timers here so forgive any ignorance! Appreciate any and all advice you all may have!

re: Generator Advice

Thanks y’all - super helpful. Was eyeing down the generac mentioned above and was feeling like it was best in class outside of the Honda. Thinking I’ll go that route. I’m still too cheap for the Honda at this stage!

Generator Advice

Posted by Koonu on 4/28/21 at 10:57 pm
After this past storm season and being without power on multiple extended occasions, I find myself looking to purchase a generator for my home. I am not looking for a whole home generator (young, not in our forever home), but rather something to maybe run a couple house hold items during an extended outage. Things like tv/internet, fridge, and maybe some fans and lighting.

Doing some light reading, I’ve gotten a bit of a grasp on wattages and load. With that being said, I figured I’d come here and ask those with experience. Does anyone have any recommendations on wattage and brand when looking at just running the essentials, such as mentioned above? Any dos and don’ts? I realize it all varies by appliance etc. but just looking for some general direction, especially on brand/quality. Any advice appreciated

Large Patch - St Aug

Posted by Koonu on 12/11/20 at 8:30 am
looking for some guidance on what appears to be large/brown patch spreading through my front lawn. Some background: it’s a St Augustine lawn in NOLA. Neighbor is an open lot, they have stopped doing lot work in the last 3 months or so and the large patch started on their property and has since spread to our joined lawn in the front.

Can large patch effectively kill my front lawn? Is there a way to remediate at this time of year? Any product recommendations?

Any and all advice appreciated!

Been trying to figure out how to best accomplish this. We have gutters on both sides of the home, and I got one of those extensions to push the water out to the side. Not sure it’s doing much for me...

Also switched to highest mower setting recently after reading about that here. Was a recent change so hopefully that helps also

Thanks! I think unfortunately the pics present a better pic than what I saw yesterday. To answer question, Believe it or not...Coyotes. Every couple nights or so, they’ve left presents from time to time. Maybe that’s the cause?

Figured from everything I read celcius was inevitable. Will pull the trigger.

Over saturation would certainly makes sense. Yard holds a lot of water during heavy rains and there were times where it felt like over a week before it would dry out. Any action item for that?

Pictures don’t capture the yellowing very well. Makes it look slightly better than it is in reality. I read that could be a natural result of the spectracide application?

NPK 32-0-10. Truthfully, I’m not sure I know what rate...I followed guidelines on what setting to use for drop spreader 6 1/4 and covered yard in same pattern as I mow
