Vinyl floor in basement bedroom advice

My finished basement has a bedroom that the carpet and pad has been removed from (sump pump installed after a leak) , the concrete floor is fairly smooth, but not precisely flat. I could have a leveling sealer put down, then vinyl planks installed over it…However, the flooring guy seems to think that 1/2” planks, including the built in underpaid, would lay flat. I hate to spend the extra $$ to have it sealed/leveled, but definitely would if going with a thinner product. Does it sound reasonable that a thicker product would have enough padding to absorb minor variations without leveling first?
(My husband died 4+ years ago, and I am clueless about house maintenance stuff, so need second opinions! Thanks).

We put down LVP in our basement.
Got it from Lumber Liquidators, now called LL flooring.
It's about 6 inches wide, about a 1/4 inch thick.
We do have some minor un level spots, but the flooring still lay just fine there. I may have had to do a little extra fiddling with the pieces to get them to snap together there.
Of course we added the recommended moisture barrier, a 6 mil thick plastic sheet.

Ah….he did not mention moisture barrier. This is why I came here, because I have zero knowledge of what is needed, thank you!

It doesn't need to be entirely flat. If there are some little dips just buy some concrete patch at home depot. Super easy to apply. Then toss on a moisture barrier and put in the flooring
