You’re overthinking it. Go to Walmart, get the cheapest tv in the size you want. Go on Amazon, get a mount. Roll with it.

I have some shitty tcl that’s caught overspray from pressure washing for 5 years now and still doesn’t miss a lick.

I’ve struggled with this. Those outdoor TVs aren’t as high as they use to be and they can be cleaned with a water hose.

I put an old tcl on the mantle above the outdoor fireplace we added to a renovated pool house with motorized drop down screens facing the pool. With the sun reflecting off the pool even with the tv at max brightness we couldn’t clearly see it during the day. Being that we wanted to be able to use it year around outside we bought the Samsung terrace from sams with 4 years of extra warranty so 5 years total (1yr manufacturer + additional). It was expensive at somewhere around 6K for the 75 inch tv but we love it. My pool house is separated from my house by 30-40 yards or so and I can see it through the window from inside clearly.

I justified it by telling myself that I didn’t get lsu season tickets and would be watching all the games at home. This has been so enjoyable that I’ve given up saints season tickets. There’s nothing like being outside in Louisiana October to early May to me so we have never regretted the big spend. I will admit though that if I could have seen the TCL I had easily I would have gone with that.

It is heavy but I have it on a large articulating mount.

I had same question in 2017 when we built. Went to Walmarks and they had a 50 inch HiSense for under 200.00

It has a better picture 7 years later than the tv in the house.

Also I never turn it off, when I’m not watching , I just mute it. (reason being?, if someone comes in back area, I want it appear as if someone is home).

I just use TCLs out there and use a weather cover.

First one got stormed without a cover got damaged, but it was old.

2nd one got stormed on even worse, but still working fine. Now I just leave it covered until I use it.

Only problem I’ve had (and I don’t even cover mine because it’s too high and a pain in the butt to get the ladder out) is the remote barely works. Have to go up to the TV with it, but I mainly watch sports so it stays on the same channel, I just can’t flip back and forth without getting up. Probably just the Roku remote.

Download the Roku app. It has a remote function in it, then you can control everything from across the yard as long as you have wifi.

Only other thing I do is put every single tv I have on a battery backup. Voltage drops and spikes are they only thing that have taken tv's out on me.

Go to Walmart or Sam’s. Buy $300 Vizio with three year protection plan. Wet tv in 2-1/2 years. Get new replacement tv. Profit

How odd. So this TV is perpetually on and broadcasting 24/7 just muted?

your power bill your prerogative I guess but that’s just odd. Do you frequently have strangers roll up on your back porch?

I have two Vizio TV's outside. They are under the porch, and are never covered. Both have been outside over three years with no issues.

what has been everyone's experience with using normal indoor TVs outside?

i've had one outside for YEARS. never in direct sunlight unless it's like 6:00pm sun and it can't avoid a few rays. still works just fine. it's an LG and it wasn't a "nice" one, but for how well it's lasted without any performance suffering, i would highly recommend just buying a cheaper tv you can stomach if something happens to it and just enjoy it.

i would not spend the money on a tv made for outdoors. those are absurdly priced.

Probably want whichever is brightest.

Aside from weather proofing, this is the biggest difference with TV's designed to be used outside. They can be very bright to compete with the sun.

get a cheap TCL or comparable smart TV and replace when it dies, which is not as often as you’d think.

This.

1000000000x

I've gone both routes. It is not close.

What I did was find 3-4 cheap 65" TVs online, then went to RTings.com and figured out their brightness scores and glare scores. Then placed the TV in a spot with minimal direct sunlight or glare and have it on a swivel/arm mount so I can tweak the angle as needed.

I recommend doing this and then getting a warranty. You can go through 5 or 6 TVs for less than the cost of 1 "outdoor TV" and they last way longer than you think. I've had two in 5+ years (second on running strong).

Yes, it plays at least 300 days a year, most days on mute or very low volume.

To the other poster: No, I don’t have strangers roll up my back patio, because they think I’m home because my TV is on, so they roll on by.
