I have two maples in my front yard, both of which have leaf damage. One is much worse than the other and is dropping some leaves. They have experienced this for a few years now. Any idea what is causing this?

Mine did that for a few years and the bark started peeling. Then it straightened up and started looking healthy.

The bark is peeling on the older one, the younger one not so much yet. The older one is a nice tree so I'd love to be able to get it healthy.

Just wait it out I guess. I come close to cutting mine down a dozen times. Glad I didn't. It's now 30 feet tall and 8" diameter and pretty. Very fast growing trees.

What causes the bark to peel and crack on red maples? Is it too much water/growth or something else?

Mine is cracking now and it's only 6 years old (well that's how long we've been in the house, tree might be 7 or 8 after some time in the nursery)

Well they live in swamps so cant be too much water. I transplanted mine from Blind River swamp.

Jason gave you a 100% correct answer.

I just read on a post yesterday that weed and feed will kill a maple in short order
