Bought this house with the driveway as the photo shows. Two questions:

1. How bad wouldn't be to cut the root where the driveway is being lifted? I can't imagine it would do any good to it but I haven't checked with an arborist to see what my options are besides chopping the thing down.

2. In the event that we get the driveway closer to level with the earth, would it be worth it to have a concrete company demo and pour new concrete, or could I save a ton by renting tools and a dumpster to destroy the driveway myself while having a company pour for me?

that looks like a really nice tree (sycamore?).

If it were me I’d do everything possible to keep it doing well. Remove the broken concrete carefully and replace either with crushed stone or permeable paving/pavers. The tree is already acclimated to having its root system truncated on that side, and the soils are already compacted. The tree has made its peace with that and that area should not be altered if at all possible

Correct. It's great until it sheds every year, on top of already destroying this section of driveway. The issue I have is that it completely cuts off the rest of the concrete behind it.

At this point I'm really hoping a storm messes it up bad because it makes for such a massive eye sore.

That tree is worth more than the driveway imo. Go gravel around the tree? Although I wouldn’t change shite.

Neighbors have a saucer swing on their branch. Nothing is bringing this tree down. Lol.

I like the pavers idea. Biloxi has an ordinance about cutting down live oaks, so I've seen paver parking lots. Impressive, IMO
