I have some old wooden floors that creak. I am about to rip out the ceiling below them to install sound insulation and lighting. While my ceiling is out, is there anything I can do to fix my creaking floors?

You could attach a 2x4 between each of the joists at the "creaking" spot, and screw through the 2x4 and pull the flooring down to the 2x4. A 2x4 is 1 1/2" thick, so a 1 3/4" screw would probably do just fine. Or you could nail through the flooring, but that would require patching and re-finishing, assuming the floors are in a finished state.

That’s called character. You know people pay extra to put floors on sleepers so they can creak.

Look up “squeeeek no more”. Dual pitched screws that you put in through the floor. The heads snap off below floor level. If you are pulling out the ceiling anyway, may not matter. This may save a lot of trouble if it keeps you from having to tear out the ceiling.

I live in a 2 story with the first floor being split into an area that is my woodworking shop and the other half being my man cave.

After Katrina I had to totally gut the ground floor and when I insulated between floors I just used the same fiberglass insulation you'd put in an attic to help deaden some of the transfer of sound. I really should have gone with sprayed in foam for better results.

You may want to consider spray foam if you haven't already.
