Anyone have good or bad experience with using a thatch rake? Have a Bermuda lawn that looks like the thatch layer is building up. Yard isn’t too big so wondering if a thatch rake is worth the effort or if I should try and rent a verticut mower.

Have you scalped it?

Sunjoe dethatcher. Use the cartridge with the blades. Can find open box ones for about $100 usually.

Kind of, cut it at 1” with a rotary mower and bagged clippings. Coming in green but still some spots where the thatch layer is showing.

I bought a manual rake. Its a really good workout to hand rake 12,000 sf of zoysia thatch.

Still undecided when to do mine. Going to rent the aerator from home depot maybe in May also. Got quotes of $500. Not many places around Nola seem to do it. Also the cost of masonry sand here seems very overpriced. Also have a cali trimmer.
