have about 1300 sq ft of Kool Deck around pool that i'm looking to renovate. received a quote today for a product called Surecrete that is much different than the KD. KD is a very uneven and porous surface that was installed when the pool was originally installed 12 years ago. color has faded and has been restored (basically repainted) twice.

The Surecrete is a masonry product that is troweled on (relatively smooth) and stained. Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts or experiences whether good or bad.

TIA

Sounds slippery when wet

What’s the quote for something like that? I have KD, and I’m looking to change it up in the future.

I haven't used Surctrete but I have used/specified Bomanite's Microtop for exterior plaza/pedestrian area applications and it works well and has great durability. Microtop is essentially the same as Surcrete as it's an epoxy that has a color added to it.

Look into stamped concrete overlay. It’ll run you around $6/7sf. At 1300 sf you may get that price down to closer to $5/sf.

FWIW, I’m not familiar with Surecrete. How much does this company charge per square foot?

I used surecrete on a floor in a laundry room I renovated. It's a nice overlay and you can add various colors. It goes on pretty smooth and doesn't really matter the surface underneath as it will "overlay" it. However, results can vary based how meticulous you are with the trowl and the debris/crap in the concrete. I had old stain in the concrete that I tried to grind out but it still pushed through and now shows as dark spots against the gray color. I also didn't have a moisture barrier under one section and the overlay is bubbling from the moisture pushing through.

Because this is by a pool, i wouldn't recommend it because it is very smooth once sealed and will make it slippery when wet and i also suspect there isn't a moisture barrier under your concrete which will cause bubbling issues.

I'm no expert but this is my experience with it.

Thanks for the responses. 6,200 is the quote. I went to look at a completed job and they actually make it look like slate/stone with irregular lines throughout. it also isn't smooth, but rather haphazardly finished to look like stone. The process is to put it down then stain it the next day.
