Is there a trick to winding string on a trimmer spool, or one string profile/brand that better than others, to reduce the problem with it fusing together on the spool?

It seems like I have to stop 2-3 times on every spool to pull the string out, unstick and rewind it. I've tried winding it tight and loose, doesn't seem to matter.

Right now I'm using Stihl 0.090" string with a square profile. Suggestions greatly appreciated.

Get an echo speed feed head.

110% agree with jimbeam. Made my life a lot easier because I could NOT stand having to fight with my Stihl trimmer spool. Now I can have it restrung in literally about 3 minutes and have no issues between spools.

The SpeedFeed Head is a great option and works well.

However, I don’t have this issue with my Stihl bump head and Stihl string. I wind it with typical tightness, not tight or loose. It works great so I haven’t really gone out and bought the speed feed head.

I have Stihl and Echo SpeedFeed heads, neither like square edge line. Echo Black Diamond line is what I use now and it has been flawless. If I didn't use that it would be regular Stihl round line. One thing with trimmer line is keeping it from getting dry, soak the spool in water or store the line in a ziplock bag with a wet paper towel. Keeps it flexible and less likely to jam.

Trimmer Line

Check out this guys video. I recently switched to the one he suggested and it did make a big difference with the line getting wielded together in the trimmer head. Less stretch is key.
