I have AccuTemp, and they love to blame it on LA humidity, etc and recommend a $1000 air scrubber. Would this totally eliminate the issue?
It’s a normal process but you should be paying around 200 to have the system cleaned. Or tough it out for a day or so and it’ll dissipate

Coil needs to be replaced. Some coils especially in newer units with the material they are making them makes it more susceptible. Mine is getting replaced and new one and is receiving some special protective coating.
You’re getting fricked if your replacing the coil. There’s nothing wrong with the coil. It’s the fact that it’s dirty and the system just hasn’t ran in a minute.
Also if it’s just a protective coating why can’t they just remove yours, coat it and then put it back?
You have an AC contractor that wants 2 grand instead of 200.

quote:Yeah because contractors like money too.
The suggestion was to buy a new coil, get it coated, then replace.

quote:Lol your source is a manufacturer saying that you should just go ahead and buy their product? You literally linked a opinion on Bronz-Glow from their website.
Nah you don’t know what you are talking about
I 100% know what I’m talking about. A UV light or a yearly cleaning will absolutely solve the issue but if you want to piss away money- go for it.

Another fool that can’t read. The guy I responded to said that they were coating the outside coil and that would do nothing for the inside coil.

Yeah most people want to go a few weeks without AC.
This issue happens on brand new systems.

Who does your cleaning, A thorough job pulling blower, both coils, clearing drain lines, and duct work is easily a $700 job. When I do it on the side I charge $400

I have my system cleaned and serviced every February. HVAC prices are the best right now. I just paid $120 bucks and had it done.
Of course a coated coil will fix it- the bacteria won’t be able to grow on it.
The problem is when contractors tell people - you have to spend $2000 to fix the problem when you can fix $200 and you need to have it serviced yearly regardless of coil replacements.
If it’s under warranty snd your not paying for it- good for you man. But you’re completely wrong that your coil has to be replaced because of the sticky sock issue.
shite you really can leave it alone and it’ll be gone in 2 days.

I don’t have my ducts or my drain lines cleaned. UV light in the plenum keeps the ducts spotless.I clean out my drip pan and pour a cup of white vinegar down each drain line every six months.
My go to guy is Quality Comfort Systems in Marrero. I’ve done a bunch of work with them- owner can be a dick but he does a hell of a job.
I usually piggy back 2 more of my in-laws houses which are close by with mine though so he gives a good price.

Report back to us once you run it for a couple of days. Bet $100 it goes away without replacing the coils

To be clear mine was covered by warranty from Rheem. Rheem is also who recommended this change. It’s not dirt, it’s microscopic. Cleaning it doesn’t resolve the problem. The new coil was coated in a Teflon protective coating, which will protect the system long term.
