So had to replace spindle kn my mower… when I put the new one on, it has about 1/2 in of “give”, up and down.
Not sure what’s up…. Blade is tight as it goes, and not on top of belt pulley, is tight as it goes.
Any idea? I’m lost

How was the play on the old spindle?
I'd call the local repair shop and ask a mechanic.

There was none.. or want before it broke.
The other 2 have no play.
Blades line up when I pull the spindle from the top, taking out the play that’s in it.

Next question is where did you buy the spindle?

Same shop I bought my mower. Gave them model number, etc.

I just replaced the spindles on my mower, there should be no play in the blade/bolt in a new spindle.
Unless your deck is weak/broken, sounds like you may have gotten a bad product.

And to make it even better.. I can’t get the bolt off the top now.
It just spins the bolt that holds the blade opposite into the blade comes off.
It’s like it’s defying physics… I’m stumped.
And I’m no mechanic, but my brother is handy and has really been doing the hard work. He can’t figure it out either

whats the make & model? A parts diagram may show a spacer or washer thats missing but every spindle i have replaced just bolted to the deck w 3 or 4 bolts.

Was there a flower or something that goes in it?

Pulley is upside down and keyway likely not aligned.
Best guess

Is there by chance a grease fitting on it? May need to pack it with grease….

Missing the spacer most likely. Was there a little gold colored ring that came in the box with the spindle?

So apparently there was a spacer that I missed when disassembling .
Guess I shouldn’t have jumped in to it prematurely

Glad you got it fixed…I was wondering about this myself.
