Anybody have recommendations on solar landscape lights that go in the ground and shoot upwards? Could use wired ones, but really don’t feel like fooling with running wires and burying them

Going for something like this, there are thousands of them out there, didn’t know if someone bought some recently that were good quality. TIA

The solar lights are all crap. Hire an electrician and get proper lighting.

Agree with comment above. You will not get lighting remotely like the pictured with typical solar lights. The solar panels would have to be a significant size (think a square foot or bigger *per light*) to shine that brightly for a good portion of the night. Run the wire and get decent lights.

Absolutely.

There are some DIY low voltage kits out there that look relatively easy.

None of them have the power of the picture you showed. Even if they look good day one a couple months in they’ll be going out.

The lazy way around this is Home Depot has kits and low voltage transmitters, they are super easy to install yourself and if you don’t want to bury the lines just put mulch down over them once you lay them.

It’s a 2-3 hour job you can do yourself for $500 or less assuming you need like 8-16 lights

OP never stated anything of the kind that solar is better than wired. He simply asks for the best solar.

But he posted a picture of some bright arse lights that will never be that bright in real life. If he wants what's in the picture, he needs to go with wired.

For those of us who dont do anything with electricity, what does outside lighting cost. I am interested in a few accent lights under my magnolias and myrtles around my house. Like 8-10 lights total.

Didn’t say he did.

The picture he posted is not possible to attain with solar

It’s not doing anything with electricity really. You plug a transformer into the outlet then plug some wires into the transformer. The newer lights simply click into the wire where you want to put them.

You no longer have to daisy chain the lights or do anything outside of striping one end and putting it into the transformer. You can lay the wire out in 1 piece and just clip the lights into it at the various points.

We have a Home Depot by the house so that’s where I go but a transformer is about 40 bucks, 30-40 bucks for the wire and a light kit that has 4 or 6 lights I believe is 150

That’s literally all you need, it’s very easy

I don’t know shite about electrical and I DIY’ed my own exterior lighting in a single afternoon. Pre-requisite skills are basically nil. If you can strip a wire you can DIY. Now, I will say - all of my wiring is through landscaped beds, which made it easy to hide wire by just covering with mulch. If you are going through yard/lawn, you will need a small trench which is an added layer of work. If you have to tunnel under concrete that’s a *hire out* job imo.

I used this kit from costco. It goes on sale for $100 off a couple times a year. They also have larger kits if more spotlights are needed.

Here’s how mine came out, for reference:

Sensor turns them on and off. Solar like everyone has said is really subpar and unreliable. Wired is the way to go

These work great:LINK

Been buying them since 2019 and those are still going strong. I have a dozen of them and they are all still working well. My sugestion is to buy a set and test them. They will not be as bright as wired, but you will be surprised.

Yeah those panels are within striking distance of that square foot per light that I mentioned.

Yep. The transformer (which plugs into a regular outdoor outlet) has a dusk to dawn setting to automatically turn lights on/off.

Low voltage wired is definitely the way to go. Wide range of prices depending on the number of lights and whether you go with plastic light fixtures or metal.
Also, you may be able to use a simpler model of the transformer and add an Alexa enabled controller for scheduling.
