Is there such a thing as a soaker hose that doesn't suck? Every one I've tried puts more pressure out at the beginning and the end is useless. I also tried one that's more of a fabric material and it has spots where it looks like it's almost gonna burst at the seam and the rest of the hose gives no water. The kind of thing I don't want to skimp on so I don't really care the price it just needs to do what it's supposed to do. thoughts?

I need to soak a row of staggered shrubs and the root area is too large for small emitters.

I was excited about how it was supposed to work, and it failed horribly on the first try and now it sits there doing nothing in the garage. My end goal is a rain barrel system with a sump pump and drip to a row of trees. 1 barrel in place, I need 2 more, the pump, and to run the drip. So, not even close yet.

2 Tips……

1) The first tip is to use a closed system. This means you will connect a 50 foot garden hose to both ends of a 50 foot soaker hose.
To connect them we use 2 Way Brass Shut off Valves.

2) The second tip is to use LOW pressure! Yes, this seems counterintuitive, but it works great! To get low water pressure, all you have to do is turn your water on one quarter turn. That's all there is to it!

I took a length of black irrigation pipe and just poked a horizontal hole in it with a carpet razor where I wanted water to come out. Working great.

I used this Drip Hose for a 100' bed I did. I just wove it around in the bed and made one big continuous loop and put in a tee with hose fitting and quick connect fitting. I used about 200' in a 100' X 8' wide bed. You can also bury it. But I just put mulch over it to hid it. I run it for about 2hrs and water is running out the bed. The bed only has trees in it along the property line.

I think they get a lot of hate from people thinking they are a forever solution or they are not installed properly. I put mine in about 4 years ago and they still work well except for two things that I messed up. I bought them too short and also the first 10'-15' were run down from the faucet over rocks and to the bed which means it was exposed to the sun. That part has definitely rotted out and leaks a lot of water. The part of the soaker hoses that are in my beds under my mulch/dirt are in great condition. Next spring when I remulch, I plan to replace the whole system. I will fix my issues by buying 25' longer soaker hoses and the first 10'-15' I will use an actual piece of hose so that none of the soaker hose is exposed to the sun. If done correctly, it is a great solution.

This is what I am going to try. Thank you, makes sense. I have pressure compensators already for other areas where I use drip. If doesn't work, rain barrel with custom perforated irrigation pipe gonna be next.

i buy the cheap ones from Harbor Freight and use them for however long they last, then i go buy more. i usually buy three or four at a time. they dont work great, but they arent measurably worse than more expensive ones from Lowes and HD either.
