Satsuma graft trimming

I have a two year old satsuma that is doing really well and is loaded with young fruit right now. My question is should I trim the undesirable growth coming out of the graft joint? It is almost as tall as the satsuma itself.

Tangentially related. I just cut down an 8-10 year old alleged satsuma tree that never flowered. Yeah it was just the rootstock this whole time. I can see near the base where the satsuma graft used to be. Whoopsie daisy

Oh yes. Never let any growth from the root stock. My Satsuma froze last year and I’m only getting growth from root stock. Wish I could find a source for graft pieces.

All you need to graft is a single stick with at least one leaf node about as big around as a pencil or smaller. More would be better because not all grafts take
You can put more than one variety on the same tree
Grafting onto an established rootstock whose scion has died is a great shortcut compared to planting a new tree
A snip from a neighbor's tree will work.

my great uncle had a tree where he grafted both a satsuma and kumquat on same rootstock

Can this be done at any time of the year or only can use new shoots?

ANYTIME. I just did one for a fig tree. Put it in a cup with dirt, made it moist, covered with a Gallon zip lock. It created its own green house, took 2 weeks, but i got new leaves. Just replanted in a bigger pot outside to let it grow

So same thing for grafting a cutting to a living root stock in direct sun in 85 degree days?
