Yeah I think I was ahead of myself asking about insurance. Feel like I got off easy. Ceiling dried and is fine looking at least now

Two guys, a 40 foot extension ladder and some acrobatics on my roof to use a caulk gun to seal it up. The original builder apparently sealed half of it back when. It’s been 7 years. I’m in the attic pretty regularly due to my wife being a hoarder. Never noticed any water. Looks like it never leaked before. $275 seemed high but they came the same day. One to evaluate and then back later with the equipment. Licensed roofing company.

Which company or can you provide a contact number? I have a very similar problem that needs fixing around two of my chimneys. Thx

It was Cypress Roofing in Gonzales.

Correction, $284. Apparently their little payment app charged a service fee. Probably won’t call them next time I have an issue. A bit excessive.

We had some leaking around a skylight and I caulked around the edges where it met the roof with DAP ROOF SEALANT. It seems to have fixed it.

In-law's house that I take care of had a similar issue, and we happily paid the same. One of the best roofing companies in town sent two guys who replaced all shingles around the chimney (storm wind had pulled them up) and re-did the flashing. Looked like prior owners hired a fly-by-night roofer that did a poor job on the flashing.

When they said $275, I was delighted to hand them a check. They said they gave me a break because I was a prior customer for a full roof job.

Once again ....If they used caulking that is exposed to sunlight ...It will not survive ....UV light destroys anything coming out a tube.

Can you explain the proper way to do it?

Metal flashing, installed properly doesn't need caulk

Yeah I hear you. If they’d been more like $175-200 i would’ve been real happy about it. The quote didn’t match reality which was 10 minutes with a caulk gun is all. But whatever.

Definitely not happy about what they found up there though. The builder had some shitty subs on some parts of my house that’s for sure. Luckily nothing major.
