Getting ready to put my pre emergent down with the front coming through Friday bringing some needed rain. Can I put Celsius down with it as well? I have some left and am seeing some VBW that’s purpling up but would like to finish it off if possible. Have a little Dallis grass coming in as well.

You can but if it is a little bit of VBW I'd spot treat it and then apply the Specticle. That is a strong mix and could cause some discoloration. I'm assuming St Aug. If it is bermuda then less of a chance of yellowing.

I can attest to this - I have Tifway 419 and did the exact same application (Celsius / Specticle Flo) about a week and a half ago and there are many areas that appear to be struggling / stressed. I think it also may have to do with the fact that my turf is relatively new (sod was laid at the end of May) and that I just did core aeration and top dressing about a week or two prior to spraying both.

Live and learn, I guess.

ETA: I also put fertilizer down at the same time so I think doing all of these things over the course of about a month has probably shocked the turf a bit. Prior to doing all of that, turf was thriving.

It’s Bermuda grass and there was a few strands of Dallis grass as well.

This what I’d do.

If none of this common Bermuda existed at the beginning of the summer (I just helped it to grow naturally), would this be considered a new lawn and should I actually avoid pre emergent this fall?

I put my new Tifway 419 down at the end of May and I did Specticlo Flo pre-emergent on it a week or so ago. They turf really took off even during the major drought we had.

Mistake number one, I was listening to How to with Doc because I just like anything lawn related during lunch.
Man that guy is annoying! Not sure what it is...
He said if it doesn't have deep roots yet then you should wait until at least January to apply a Pre M.

I'm sure you'll be fine. It's Bermuda after all, right?

Where did you get your Tifway from?
I'll either fill in the rest of the yard with 419 sod or common seed next spring.

Landscaping company got it from some farm in Alabama I believe.

I'd let it roll. If a yard needs to fill in then I don't use pre em. If you have the right chemicals you can always fight off whatever comes in. Common and Tif don't mix. Color difference, seed head production difference, blade thickness difference, and blade placement difference. I have two spots in my back about 8 inches across that is common. I won't have a single seed head in the yard and then 100 in those two small spaces. I hand pull as the tif chokes it out.

Thanks, so seedheads for common are a fact of life?
I've noticed this even cutting every 2-3 days.

What if I try PGR next year?

Lots of people will tell seed heads are a sign of stress. A plant tries to reproduce every year. It’s not always a sign of stress. Even though tic can’t reproduce by seedheads it will still throw them up. Common will do so more often.

Putting down pre emergent this evening. If it rains later today, can I still put it down as long as it rains again tonight?

Sure - the pre-emergent label will state when it should be watered in following application, which is often a couple weeks - but it can’t start doing its job of killing germinating weed seeds until it’s washed into the soil where seeds germinate.

PGR will slow it for sure but you'll still get some late spring.

I read that but wasn’t sure about soil being wet or if grass was damp if it would still work. I’m at work right now and seeing rain in forecast for around 3. Give a break for about two hours then more rain. Will try during the break.

I'm not either one of them, but I think waiting until Thanksgiving is way too long.

I think it's supposed to be in the 40s/50s after this "cool" front passes through today / tomorrow. What will the temps be where you're located?
