We used one of them for our master shower. We like the result but we know now we over payed by about 1.5x. You pay for the convience. The contractor who actually did the work was very helpful and worked with me, but that could be luck of the draw. We went with the most expensive panel as it was the only one that didn't look like cheap plastic. What we do like about the shower is it's 24" wide floor to ceiling panels that are connected by metal channels. No grout to have to clean.

Demo a bath is pretty easy.

Hire a handyman or a contractor who focuses on bathrooms and you'll save money compared to the "bath fitter" companies.

We are about to redo our daughters' bathroom. We will go the contractor route for theirs.

I have seen many of the shower-in-a-day jobs. Yet to see one I would be satisfied with. Several of them had walls buckling from an improper fit. I was astounded at how much these people paid for them. Especially the ones that fit the panels to cover up the existing problems. I would suggest a real shower, with real tile walls and floor. Make it any size, shape, and pattern or colors you like. For a lot less money. Pick your contractor carefully. A knowledgeable one can assist you with decisions and make all the difference.

Don't forget to get some sort of trash bin. There is a lot more material than you think there will be.

Significantly more.

Check for electrical in the walls behind the shower/tub before you start demo.

No, not really. I just spent a day just upgrading an old 3-handle shower/tub setup to a Delta universal single-handle unit. Cast iron drain/vent lines impeding direct access, someone's previous work (that included a sharkbite fitting attaching the copper shower head line to the old manifold) meant a lot of extra items to address. I still have to go back and build a custom vanity but at least there are new valves and cleaned up plumbing to work with.

I'm looking into Castico kits, something that looks way better than a fiberglass kit but not as much work as tile.

A friend is getting a bath to shower redo by a one day company. She said it was $12.5K. I can’t tell you if that is good or bad. She did get several estimates between $12.5-$18K.

In all likelihood that’s a 5-7 thousand dollar job.

I didn't spend that much individually, gutting our bathrooms at our 1st or 2nd homes. By gut I mean tore out down to the studs and subfloor. I did all the demo myself and some of the other stuff. Replaced galvanized steel pipes with PVC in our 1st home. Both homes had that thick mortar bed with reinforced wire mesh behind the tiles.

Messy dusty jobs but so worth it.

That is really high.....I will demo my self and hire good contractor to install my choice of material.

Will not go with the one day deals.....hear to many nightmares.....and will not last.
