I know we've got some handy folks on this board. Oven seized up a week and a half ago and locked. Had an appliance repair guy come out and unlock it and diagnose the issue. He says the board went out and that it'd be $700 to replace.

Based on the model of the oven(Whirlpool RBS305PDS17) it looks like this is the board...
Whirlpool Control Board

Anyone ever replaced one of these on their own? I'm about to call around to some other appliance repair guys and tell them I know it's the board and that the board costs $345(maybe cheaper if I keep looking), but was just curious about the ease of the project as a DIY

I've replaced the control board on my dishwasher. Bought a refurbished board at Partsimple.com if you want to go that route and same some money (your oven board - $175). If you're halfway mechanically inclined, it's pretty straightforward. If you can change the oil in your car you can do this.

Keep track of the screws & locations, take pic's during disassembly. Board will have a few connectors and they should all be different so it's hard to cross them up. Again, take pictures for reference.

Check YouTube for additional help. Good Luck!

Agree with ^. I've done a few appliance repairs, including taking apart dual microwave/oven recently. It's really not bad and the youtube videos will walk you through it pretty well.

I did this a few years ago and it was quite simple. Control panel was not cheap but much less than $700 and only took a few minutes.

I found a board/panel for my stove on EBAY, new old stock. Upon getting the original out I found a bad solder joint, fixed it and it's now a spare. Examine the board you have closely.

Just talked to another appliance repair guy about it to see about getting him out for a second opinion. This guy says he has seen this a bunch of times, and it's seemingly always around this time of year. Folks clean their ovens before the holidays and it fries the thermostat and/or temperature sensor. That's like a $60 part. Quite the difference from the whole board

I've done it a couple of times on an Amana. The last time i did it I read in a forum "not to forget to put the insulation back". Never recalled there being insulation involved in the process. So the last time i changed it I put insulation between the board and the oven/heat. Haven't had any trouble with in in 5 years.

I'm sure now that i've made the above claim, the damn thing will be on the blink as soon as i get home

Did you run the oven self clean? Appliance guy I use says to never do that because of how they build ovens now with little insulation.

In the past it was OK but now you risk frying it.

Yep

Will never run that cycle again. Just had another guy come look at it. First guy walked in and said "this particular model does not have a temperature fuse" then proceeded to look at the board and tell us it was gone and needed a new board. Guy today told me on the phone that he thought it was the fuse. Got there and he pulled the oven out of the hole and changed the fuse, no dice, he also tried a few other things and ultimately came to the same conclusion. Currently out $195 combined on two service calls, but after the guy today I feel better knowing that it is in fact the board and not some repair guy trying to immediately tell me it's the most expensive part.

I think we're leaning towards replacing the whole oven now. This one came with the house so it's probably 13-14 years old and for the cost of the board and the fuse and putting it back in an old oven vs paying a little more and just getting a new one(and the warranty), we are leaning towards it being a smarter option to just get a new one

They are really easy on ovens. Especially if it's a stove.
