I posted about a week ago asking for recommended appliance brands and got some good idea.

However, after measuring the refrigerator space it turns out we will need a 42” fridge. Has anyone recently shopped around for built ins in that size? In Baton Rouge where is the best place to look for that sort of fridge? Obviously we are looking at a big jump in price point so any tips on getting a good deal would also be appreciated.

Thanks.

I bought a house 2 yrs ago with a 48" built-in. Control board went out and Kenmore does not make the replacement part any longer. I will tell you this a 48" built-in counter depth I cannot find any cheaper than 9k. Its making me sick to think that I need to pay that much for a frig. If anyone has any ideas to get this done cheaper I and open to listen
My point is if you can get something that is not a built in you may want to go that route

I have no personal experience with built-in refrigerators, but I know 2 people who have had problems with them. Like another poster said, when there is an issue, it is compounded by the fact that you have to tear apart your kitchen to work on it.

And they are much more $$$ up front to purchase.

I had an Electrolux 42" built in.

It was a complete piece of shite. If that is brought up by any sales person, I'd suggest you walk out and find somewhere else to buy.

As to which brand to buy, every single repairman that out to work on ours highly recommended sub zero.
Two reasons: They work and if something does tear up it's something that they can repair.

Not gonna lie, they're expensive as crap. You're looking at 10k for the fridge, but if you want one that works and can be repaired, pay it.

I rebuilt my kitchen cabinets around my fridge to fit a normal size fridge so I didn't have to go out and spend another 10k. Wish I had spent 2k more in the beginning.

Thanks for the stories. A new built-in ranges from about 8k up to 20k+. I think we are just going to bite the bullet and get a good quality built-in. It’s killing me a little inside. I was thinking we were being silly when we were looking at $3k+ fridges. I guess the joke’s on me. But it will look good in our new kitchen, so there’s that.
