I was in the attic a few days ago grabbing some Christmas stuff and noticed a piece of sheetrock had fallen. It looks like it was originally around some rafters as I noticed where it looked to have fallen from. Is this worth fixing? No leak. No damage. Just looks like a piece broke and fell. Probably about a 12x12 piece, maybe a little bigger.

Depends on the reason that it was put there. Sheetrock is non-structural and is typically put there to separate living spaces (I.e.ceilings and interior walls).

This was up in the rafters of the attic. House ceiling and walls are fine. Roof in attic is also fine. I’m not very handy but to the average eye it looks like nothing. Just wanted to make sure,

Take a picture and post

Is there still other sheet rock up there?

Are you sure it was originally up there?

Fire wall?

Original owner probably had some extra Sheetrock and said “just put it up there, maybe some day I’ll finish out the attic.”

Can’t think of a god reason Sheetrock would be nailed to bottom of rafters in attic. Is it a firewall maybe.

Based on your description, I would not be concerned about it.
