Put down 3 pallets of Geo Zoysia on 4/11

I mentioned in another thread that I put down a few pallets of Geo in a pretty shaded area and a few people asked for a thread to track the progress. I've got s small backyard but each side gets pretty different amounts of sun so it should provide a lot of info as to just how well it performs in 3-4 hours of direct sun vs 6-8.

These pictures are from today (4/14).

This side gets sun almost all day, except for the evening so it should do just fine.


This side is on the opposite side of the house and it gets afternoon and evening shade so it should also do fine. I could see the portion behind the AC having trouble.


This is the back and this will be the telling section. It only gets about 3-4 hours of direct sunlight, which is the advertised minimum. Let's see if it's as advertised.

Update: One month out

So far so good. It's still early, but the heavily shaded areas are actually doing really well. I went out of town for a couple days and we had some really hot days while I was out. I took these right when I got back home, so the edges that look stressed have since greened back up.

The side that's doing the best is the one that gets evening shade which isn't surprising. I've upped the water for the side that gets solely afternoon and evening shade.

When they say it grows low and slow they aren't kidding. I have a push reel mower and have dropped it as low as it will go and it's still not low enough to cut some spots. It's definitely growing, it just grows almost straight sideways.
