I saw an earlier thread with a lot of folks recommending sweet viburnum, but I’m worried it may grow too wide. This is an extra urban lot I have which had a wooden fence destroyed in Ida.

I need to go about 75 feet long and keep the width to 4 feet or so… don’t want it taking up too much space or encroaching on neighbor too much.

I planted clumping bamboo about 6 months ago and its starting to fill in. It gets about 8-10' tall and makes about a 4-6' circular clump. I should be filled in pretty good when springtime rolls around.

Privets and Ligustrums fill in pretty quick. They do require shaping each year maybe twice.
I too love bamboo, but when it starts to spread where you don't want it too, it is difficult to stop.

So these options require maintenance.

I’ll take trimming over spreading bamboo. It’s going to be next to an area that’s sodded, so I don’t want all that money ruined. Id go with fence again, but I want something closer to 8-12 feet high.

I have a portion of my backyard with iron fencing that I want some privacy since we just put in a pool.

I'm going to be planting some juniper trees that will grow to 8 ft diameter. But there are others that get only 4 ft in diameter. It is a rather large area and I don't want to trim shrubs.

My only concern with these are the tendency to attract wasps.

Brusly, I'm unaware of junipers attracting wasp. Good info.

The ones we had in our yard when I was a kid always had them. I guess they are tight enough to keep water out.

Check out Skip Laurals. We have a 5 of them along the back patio and they are beautiful. We have had them 4 or 5 years and will need trimmed for the first time next spring. They stay green year round and might need a little watering during the summer the 1st couple of years to get them going.
