I know this has probably been posted but could not find anything. My St. Augustine is being overtaken by weeds. Was hoping to spray Pre-Emergent but the weeds started appearing mid-January.

Any suggestions? Atrazine?

8.6 oz Atrazine, 2 oz. weed free zone, 2 tsp surfactant in 1-2 gallon sprayer per 1000 sq. ft.

repeat in 2 weeks as needed.

Why is that? 1/8 level teaspoon per gallon of water. You can order those on Amazon - if you are like me, order several b/c I’m going to misplace one.

As Gamecocks22 and ronk have stated you need to be careful applying MSM Turf during the green up phase of lawns, which is occurring now in our area , particularly with St Aug. Lawn grass is pretty sensitive to all herbicide applications at that time. Personally, I like to save the MSM Turf until it’s to hot to safely use atrazine+weed-free-zone.

I'll do that then. I'm going all out on my back yard this year. It's out of control. You name it, I probably have it growing in my back yard. St. Aug/Bermuda mix

Make sure you use the surfactant in the MSM Turf solution.

My backyard is also a combination of St Augustine and common Bermudagrass - long story on how that came about. I’ve decided I want the St Aug, but there is no herbicide to remove the bermuda without potentially damaging the St Aug. So I’m cutting the grass high, 3 inches, so that the St Aug will displace the Bermudagrass over time. This is year 2 and I already see significant encroachment of St Aug into the Bermudagrass areas. I know it may take several years + but I think I’m making progress. I’ll nuke a solid area of Bermudagrass next month and replace with St Aug sod to speed up the process.

I've seen this posted pretty consistently on this board. Just ordered the bottles and gonna apply it this weekend.

Thanks for everyone's responses. I'm in the Austin TX area and am trying to find a store that has these in stock as I'd rather get it done today, if possible.

Just an FYI the pre em that you would be applying in the early part of the year isn’t for weeds in the early part of the year. It’s for summer. Fall pre for November-March weeds. Spring pre for April-July weeds.

Your area is not going to be too different that mine. At this point barricade or dimension (but it may be too late). Msm on broadleafs and certainty/atrazine on poa and rescue grass.

Are you saying the Atrazine/Weed Zone combo is a pre-emerg? I was understanding them to be post. Regardless, I just sprayed so should be able to tell in the coming days.

No. I was responding to your original post about applying pre em but you already had weeds. I was just saying apply it anyway.

Atrazine has pre and post qualities. I only use it as a post in combination with certainty.
