What about PEX lines

Pex will freeze, but it expands so generally the pex will not burst.

That's what I thought. Like I said, I'm running water slowly but I wasnt sure if I should take extra precaution in the attic. Majority is covered, but not all.

Pex will freeze & burst

A big part of the myth around PEX is the idea that its ability to expand will somehow protect the system from bursting when frozen. While this ability to expand may provide a small degree of protection against bursting when the pipe is new, its ability to expand diminishes significantly as the pipe ages and the interior surface of the pipe begins to degrade when chlorine is in use.

You'll be fine. It won't get cold enough for long enough inside the attic to freeze pipes.

Interesting. Wonder how much difference in Pex A vs B to retain its ability to "flex" over time? Obviously seems like pex-A would be much better than B.

Interesting you ask, b/c I just had experience with this the other day doing some work on my water heater.

The original Pex A was installed 13 years ago. Compared to the brand new stuff, it was definitely stiffer and more difficult to deal with. However, I was able to expand it and install new fittings with my Milwaukee expansion gun with no problems.

Thats pretty impressive. I'd think the ability to withstand the smaller stretch of freezing would be at least 20 or 30+ years for pex-a then. Of course it may depend other factors like the amount of chlorine the water has.
