So in my parents living room, the floor has a ton of soft spots and it needs to be changed out. My dad's too old to tackle, I can't even use a hammer properly so what would be a reasonable amount for someone else to do the work for them? It's a plywood subfloor, joists and posts are fine and they're going carpet over it.

call around to some carpet installers and see if they are willing to deal with the subfloor also. It would help greatly if you did the demo

Assuming the floor joists are fine, should be about $2,000.

That was one of the lower quotes they got. The others were in the $4-6K range. They found someone that will be done with the job tomorrow. He only charged $1,000(labor only) to install subfloor and laminate on top.
