Using Valspar Reserve Interior paint and primer for trim area around door. Seems to be some bleed through stains from the previous coat. Do you think a second application may cover this up?

A paint rarely covers in one coat, even if they claim this

Even a quality paint won't cover in one coat unless what it covers up is stain-free and similar in color. You're going to be 2-coating at a minimum.

Is that related to Sherwin Williams?????

My go-to paint store for a couple decades now. Love their products.

Amen to this. I use SW pro classic (water based) for my trim and cabinets and 2 coats does the job. That second coat is my favorite to apply and makes all the difference.

Even doing walls with SW emerald I use 2 coats minimum. Even if the paint can cover well the roller may not apply perfectly uniform. Always 2 coats.

you're just using less quality paint. you people don't understand what primer is. you cannot combine primer and paint. you wind up without primer for sure and crappier paint.

I can't count the number of gallons of paint I've applied over the years and what you said is truth.

No matter how careful you are to try to get full coverage, there will be spots that show through and enough so that a second coat is necessary.

And it only gets worse if covering vastly different colors like dark green to light tan.

Just because they make that product doesn't mean it works well.

All the paints that say "one coat will do the trick" are lying.

I've been painting the inside of our house over the last week. Trim, doors, and walls. All good Sherwin Williams Cashmere paint. All had bleed throughs after one coat. Latex just doesn't go on great as it gets sticky and gummy. Heck I had to do 3 coats on some doors.

But you can get the primer tinted and then apply one top coat
