Painting a fence that was painted brown - questions

So I bought a house where the previous owner painted the exterior fence brown. I am wanting to paint it a different color. It will be sort of dark gray\stone color.
Do i need to prime first? what type of paint would you use so it doesnt crack? I dont want it to be glossy or anything.

It's not the paint that is cracking. It's the expansion/contraction of the wood pulling it apart. Pressure wash that crap off, and stain it.

well maybe its already stained because this is not cracking at all like the shutters have done since winter is over.

SW carries a gray stain.

No, you would need to get as much off as possible.

Take a close up picture of the fence and bring it to SW, they will tell you exactly what to do.
ETA: Maybe call then email picture since you might be on lockdown.

a solid stain is what i would use. The word stain is misleading. It will basically be like a solid coat of paint, but dosent require primer and absorbs in the wood and has no sheen. A regular exterior house paint will work also since the woods pores are sealed now.
