Our bathroom has a separate walk-in shower and a bathtub about 10’ apart. I noticed when using the cold water for the tub the shower head would start dripping water at almost a stream. Didn’t happen all the time, just occasionally. It started doing it again recently without the tub faucet turned on, but the dishwasher and the washing machine were in use.
What would cause this and how hard is it to fix?

This is a pretty normal thing, assuming we're just talking about a few drips and it stops. Just residual water left in the line that expands and drips out due to any number of reasons.

If it weren’t for the shower head diffusing it this would be a steady stream that doesn’t stop until the other water source is shut off.

It must be something with the pressure drop when running the tub.

I had something sort of similar when i redid my bathroom and the plumber ran piping between the controls and the shower head. He ran pex but the instruction manual stated to run hard pipe. Pex has a smaller ID. When i would run the tub the shower would drip. I had to cut out the wall so he could change to hard pipe or copper instead of pex. After that it was fine. A little different from your situation but probably something stupid like that.

Thanks. That’s what scares me.

We have the same issue. Pex up to the shower head. Need 1/2” copper or galvanized.

My first thought is that something is wrong with the cartridge in the shower valve. Newer valves are pressure balanced to help reduce scalding when someone uses cold water while the shower is on. Maybe it's able to seal when your house is fully pressured but when you run water else where, there's less pressure on the seals and they're allowing a small amount of water past?

Look up your valve and unless you're unlucky there will be a youtube video of someone repairing/replacing the guts in it.
