Having a tear out and reinstall of our front, side beds. The older beds need work, the shape is nice, but needs soil work, needs to reclaim/refresh rock border installed around drip edge, and new plantings. Have agreed with local company to do it, recommended plantings were Dystilium in the back of the beds, with soft leaf yucca in front. Really liked the design and the ideas, but after looking at the yucca not sold on it 100%, it seems to look pretty woody after a bit, would like an option or two of some type of evergreen type plant, that stays about 18 inches tall and doesnt spread too much, plan calls for 27 of them, so it is would be a pretty big swap out if we changed out sooner rather than later.

nothing about yucca is appealing to me. they can look decent in a clump and they’ll flower if they like the spot but a bed full of them isn’t what I would do.

I don’t have a suggestion for you because I don’t know what you like but I can definitely question the wisdom of the yucca

Look at Red Yucca which you can also get with a yellow plume. Maybe mix red and yellow.

I just finished my beds this past weekend. I did a row of Japanese yew with alternating sunshine Ligustrum and shi shi camelias.

Side run of bed is dwarf yaupon holly,

Overall I think it looks great, just gonna have to stay on top of trimming and shaping everything.

LSU ag center website is a good reference as to what to plant for our climate and environment. Azaleas (there are different varieties), Indian Hawthorn, shi shi camellias, cleyera, gardenia, agapanthus, etc. Plant them in groups of odd numbers.
