New homes St. Tammany

Idiots crying new homes needed for expected growth and backstabbing approval given for massive subdivisions in Goodbee. They didn’t factor in they may not need that many houses because they are driving existing homeowners out. They didn’t move here to end up like Metairie and will be moving out.

I live in Mandeville and understand your sentiment. But you have zero control over land you don't own. Forces bigger than you and your family shape what an area becomes. If there is demand, it will happen.
Luckily there is a built-in escape hatch for development like this. The value of your house and land will increase. You can sell, move away from the crowds, and possibly even pocket a windfall.

they are steady building shitbox DSLD subdivisions all around me between Hammond and Covington. The extra traffic on my way in and out is kind of annoying but otherwise I’m happy to see the demographics improve. And I’m hoping that my property starts to gain value in comparison.
I am surprised at the prices in those things though…300K plus. For about 50K more you could get a nice patch of land with a decent house so I don’t understand why people choose that but whatever

City Councils and Zoning Boards do not optimize for citizens well being and happiness. Everything is fake and people get paid to make decisions to better themselves.
If you can not tolerate it, the only way is to buy land and move away.
anecdote: I recently went back and saw all the shitty subdivisions they built between robert and mandeville. 1 good storm and its shitsville down there. Selling and getting out of there is by far the best financial decision ive ever made.

It wouldn't be such a problem if St Tammany would improve the infrastructure first before they keep green lighting new subdivisions.
The traffic going to and from I-12 off that exit is already ridiculous at peak traffic times. They need to upgrade the roads around 1077 and 1085 to handle the traffic better before they keep approving new subdivisions that will only continue making the traffic worse.
Plus they need to do the work to improve drainage. That area has had flooding issues multiple times in the past 10 years. More neighborhoods means more runoff that needs to be drained. St Tammany government keeps putting the cart before the horse

high property taxes are a tradeoff for the Northshore market — residents are paying for perceived advantages like schools, lower crime, and suburban quality of life, but it does affect affordability and future development economics.
The lack of infrastructure and commercial development is even more concerning.

It’s sad what is happening to St Tammany and I don’t even live there and it’s infuriating. Some of those buyers are lower income who get gov grants so these neighborhoods will be crap in about 10 years. Can drive through some of the neighborhoods now and see some decline. And they aren’t building schools to accommodate this growth. Those schools will be just like the south shore soon enough. Horrible.

Ironic.
I've said for many years that St. Tammany would be better off if Causeway tolls were doubled and taxes went way up. The transients should become more transient.

They should. I don’t even live there and feel bad for what’s happening. Have family there, though. I’m not sure of any positives from all of the building except taxes, I guess. Why they want to ruin a good parish is beyond me.
