Need ideas for child stair safety
My daughter's room is upstairs. In the next few months it will be time to transition from the crib to a regular bed.

I'm super nervous about her getting up in the night and trying to come downstairs. I'm planning on putting up a second gate (already have one at the bottom), but I'm still nervous about her figuring it out.

Do any of y'all have any suggestions? I was also thinking about just switching the lock on her door to he able to lock from the outside. I tried to find like a motion sensor to put in the hallway, but a quick search didn't yield much.

If your kid is old enough, teach her how to go down the stairs sitting on her butt, one step at a time. Good luck.

Gate at the top and bottom is what we did.
Even then my son fell down the stairs more than once but was never hurt too bad.

Kids are tough.

I’d tell you not to worry so much about it but I’ve been in your shoes. Can’t really do that.

Make sure it is a gate that is intended for Top of Stairs and is screwed to a stud or otherwise firmly attached to the bannister.

The tension type gates are not intended for use at the top of stairs.

Put a toddler door knob cover on the knob inside of her room. If she knows how to work one of those, check out the "door monkey." Same idea as locking the door from the outside, but you won't have to mess with the knobs

Im in similar situation. We already have safety gate at top and bottom. Mine are pretty tight and no way my 3 yr old can or will be soon able to slide the button and lift the gate.

What I am going to do additionally is install a child level and size handrail under the main handrail. You can search online but the basic is using 3/4" dowels 12"-18" high. Its perfect for kid height and small hands and helps them going up and down stairs.

This has been our answer for night time. Before our daughter turned 2 she mastered the baby gates and they merely slowed her down. They became more of a hazard as she'd stop at the top of the stairs to open it, so we took them down soon after.

This is what we did once he started crawling out. Really the only sure way IMO, he could climb over a baby gate.

Tie a rope around her leg that's only as long as the top step. Tie the other end onto her doorknob so you can hear her door close when she tries to sneak out
