Looking at getting a griddle but there are a ton of choices. Looking at a Blackstone 2 burner. Any opinions on hood or no hood or any other opinions on Blackstone in general?

What do you mean by hood? Like a metal cover or an exhaust hood?

I had a 4 burner 36” that I moved to the camp and i installed a built in 28” or 30” 2 burner. It’s certainly adequate for my large family.

the new ones can come with a drop down lid like a grill. To me that defeats the purpose of the open plancha (hot sear, browning)

The better way is to cover with a single dome if you are trying to melt cheese or similar

I use the hood just to protect the griddle from the elements. It isn't to help cook the food.

ETA:

And I would recommend it unless it's in a completely covered spot that won't ever get wet. Even the covers you put on these things rot and allow some moisture in. The hood helps to protect it a lot.

So if I'm looking at it right online, some come with a closed cover like a grill and other come with just a cover you put over the cooking surface to protect it from elements

Whatever you decide on, don't buy this POS from Wal-Mart.

Get something with 5/8" or 3/4" stainless steel plate, not that cast iron or carbon steel BS.

I'm bricking this in next weekend.

Costco should still have the 4 burner 36" grill with a hood and shelving system for under $400. Mrs. BTB got me the smaller griddle with 4 burners and no hood, and I wish we had the hood. I don't think the hood was as big a deal until more people started using them. Now they are pretty much standard. I'll just buy one from Amazon.

Get the 4 burner. It's a lot easier to control what you're cooking with 4 burners vs. 2 burners. I think a big selling point that people tend to ignore about it is the ability to transport the Blackstone and store it, but I've not really heard anyone disassemble their Blackstone at home. Overall, we've used it 3 times and have been thoroughly pleased.

I have one that stays outside. It's a 36" and has a hard cover that completely removes from the griddle. I've had it for 5-6 years now.

I've never had an issue with rust. When I bought it i seasoned the top really well. After I cook with it I clean it. While the griddle is still very hot, I will go over the entire surface with a wet paper towel. After that, I put a thin coating of vegetable oil over it.

Cover it back and it's good to go.

Well, there ya go.

The hood is just a hard cover that is easy to deal with.

If you've got time and a Tractor Supply nearby they put them on sale a couple times a year for $250...36", 4 burner with cover. Hell of a deal for what you get.

the nice thing about the 4 burner is you can have a screaming hot side and a cooler side.

I have a royal gourmet 3 burner table top and love it except the drain hole. The griddle is ceramic coated so no rust.

I have a 2 burner, 22" Blackstone. I use propane conversion from the small butane camping style bottles. I keep it in my shed covered from humidity. Clean and oil after every use. I have no hood, just use a dome cover when needed. It is at least 5 years old and no rust. I have never replaced a thing on it. At times I wish I had the bigger 36" or so.

same here. I have it hooked up to a 5 gallon propane bottle.

It's perferct for what I need, and i'm not doing anythign complicated on it where i need one side hot one side warm.
It's really just something I use to make hamburgers, fajitas and steaks, and it's a hell of a lot quicker using that 2 burner than it is using a cast iron pan on the stove b/c I can cook everything at one time for our family instead of doing 2 or 3 batches in the pan on the stove.

i have the 36" wide 4-burner model. love it. however every other year i have to spend some time reconditioning the cooking surface. not that big of a deal, but if I were starting over, i would strongly consider going to the pit boss griddle with the ceramic cooking surface. just a thought.

also, if you want to go the stainless steel route, there are stainless options made if you do a quick google search. not made by Blackstone, but made to fit it.

happy cooking no matter what you decide.

That person thought he was smarter than the instructions.

Season the thing properly, or get used to a little rust on the burgers.
