Are you sure it’s barnyard grass? People confuse that, goosegrass, crabgrass, Johnson grass, and Dallisgrass all the time.

St. Aug
That’s a tricky one to grow. Seems to either love its spot and thrive or be a pain in the arse to grow and disease ridden. Spray some Celsius on it. If you don’t want to buy the bigger bottle you can buy it in a smaller quantity on Amazon or SiteOne for about $25.

Never water in the afternoon or at night. Last cycle should finish early in the morning.
I have read/been told this several times and seems logical except for the fact that our rainfall this time of year is typically late afternoon? How come afternoon showers multiple times a week doesn’t lead to root rot but watering does?
I’m not trying to be argumentative just trying to get a better understanding as I figure out my watering schedule once my son goes back to school.

Pretty sure. Purple stalk in star pattern, darker green with seed head. I can take pics once I get back home.

I can do that. Didn't that existed. Back to my yard. Will it come back once the weather cools?
Probably so. Likely heat stress on grass when roots that aren't developed yet.
Do a fall fertilizer with some preemergent. Grass that thin will be loaded with winter weeds. Same thing in spring time...fertilizer with preemergent.

Start of with timer and water every morning for 30min.
might have to use 2 one in front and one in back.
Keep St. Aug from dying out. worry about other afters saved or you replace.

You can’t help rainfall but most root rot needs lows in the upper 60’s/low 70’s and highs in the mid 80’s. The disease you’d be trying to to prevent mid summer is grey leaf spot. It’s a leaf tissue fungus only.

Yeah, I saw some of that too. Those spots on the blades.

To answer your question about barnyard grass prodiamine will prevent it.

So for newly laid St. Aug, you should just water in morning? I just planted St. Aug sod 10 days ago and a lot of it looks dead. Isn’t rule of thumb to water twice a day for the first 9 days. Admittedly, I didn’t adhere to that schedule and instead watered once a day in either morning or afternoon

Did you water daily the first 30 days? That is the most common problem with new sod not establishing or becoming weak.

I don't know, but pretty close if not. The rest of the yard is good with the exception of one spot in the front. Of course I am not talking about all of the barn grass just the st. aug growth.
