Nah, you can't go less than 1" with a rotary...

If you aren't on a budget, check out Swardman reel mowers. They are pretty amazing.

Otherwise, you can do what I did, and find a used greens mower in good shape online.

I’ve only got about 2,000 sf total. I was thinking about buying a used McLane push mower to see if I like it. I can get one for about $150. If I like the look and hassle I may buy a powered one.

I bought a California reel mower from mowers direct. Make sure you get the Honda engine and buy the front roller. I will attempt to get it down lower next year. I keep it about 1.5” right now. I’m only cutting once a week.

Seems like a good deal for a small yard

Are you familiar with the Palisades zoysia? I’ve read that it can be kept up as low as .5” but I’ve never seen anyone do it. It’s a medium blade grass so I’m not sure what it would look like.

No personal experience with the Palisades variety, but it says 1/2 inch on its website so I would believe them.

Nope lol. Your yard is the 1st thing anyone judges you on if they are coming over to your house.

Well if they are judging me by my yard, they don't need to come to my house. There's already enough judgmental SOBs in this world. I don't need them at my house.

I have Empire zoysia that was just layed this year and this stuff is crazy thick. I also have a cub cadet lawn tractor and had to buy the bagger for it because it was just too much.

I’ve been eyeing out those Swardman pretty hard. Last year they had a 20% off sale for Black Friday and if they do it again I’m going to pick one up. They aren’t cheap, but I like how convenient it is to change the different cartridges and send off the blade to be resharpened.

You retired and live in an HOA?

Pretty sure this is the guy that had the neighbors call the police on him because he was open carrying his sidearm while cutting grass. So...

Yes, they are pretty awesome. I'd love to have one. But I'm going to roll with my John Deere 220 for another few years. Swardman is perfect for a homeowner though. My JD is way too big and harder to maneuver.

Swardman have a sale going on right now with $500 off and if you add the transport wheels and grooved front roller you can also get them free with coupon code ryanknorr.
