Mulch Cedar vs. Cypress

What are the pros & cons of Cedar v. Cypress mulch?
This is for a backyard garden bed in Metairie and I don’t feel like going the pine straw route.

Personally speaking, I think cedar looks fantastic for about a week, then fades fast. If I had the choice I would go cypress (the good one).

Crushed pine straw for the win. Don’t like hardwood mulches myself.

pine bark
it’s cheaper, it rots better, it adds some acidity and it’s easier to keep groomed

I’m not a fanatic conservationists but I really disagree with so many of out cypress trees being harvested for mulch, I’d go with one straw

+1
I go with pine bark or pine straw.

Agree. I’ve moved to pine straw. It breaks down quicker and is easier to move when needed. That may not be a pro for everyone, but for me it is.

To answer your question, I don’t think there is too much difference at all in cedar and cypress mulch. Both are very soft woods, which is the reason they are used for mulch in the first place. As some others have said, I don’t particularly like logging cypress trees solely for chipping into mulch. There are a lot of other byproducts that we can use for that purpose.

All good points.
I went with Cedar because that’s all the local feed store had anyway.
