I have MSM, Celsius, Simazine, and Certainty all at my disposal for weed control. My MIL centipede lawn looks terrible with POA annua, white clover, lesser trefoil, and various other broadleaf weeds. What herbicide would you use for this combination of weeds? I was thinking MSM and certainty but wanted to make sure since it’s about 75% greened up. I know we probably need to start a paid service for their diagnosis.

Most are using MSM now and saving the Celsius for the heat of the summer, when it’s about the only thing safe to use. I am broadcast spraying MSM and spot spraying Celsius on some problem spots of dichondra.

Certainty alone won’t kill the poa. Add some atrazine. Msm for broadleafs now. Save the Celsius for vbw, doveweed, etc

Thanks Ronk! So atrazine, msm, and certainty? What rate for each since that might be a hot mix?

You are going to do all 3 at the same time? I’ll have to get a fill chart but you’ll have to bump this thread Monday.

I’m fine with whatever you think is best Ronk. If it’s just msm and atrazine I can make that work too.

You can mix the three. I’ll post the fill tomorrow

Would I get any post activity with Simazine versus the atrazine? I would have to buy the atrazine.

From what I’ve read, atrazine has better post-emergent activity, certainly on Poa, than simazine, but simazine has better pre-emergent activity. But if mixing with MSM Turf, I’d go for and use the Simazine you have at this late date rather than buying Atrazine. I’ll be interested to see ronks recommendation on this as it’s a good question you’ve asked.

Craw does bring up a good point. You don’t currently have atrazine. Poa will be gone in 2-4 weeks so spending money to kill it is up to you. Before mixing simazine with msm did you put a pre em already? If so what and how long ago?

If you’re thinking that killing the poa now will keep it from coming back next year that won’t be the case. At this point it’s already dropped seeds that will need to be prevented by a pre em this fall.

What is the mix ratio for spot spraying with MSM? I seem to have misplaced my mixing instructions.

.5 grams per gallon. At normal walking speed with a fan tip nozzle you’ll spray .67 gallons per min/1000sq ft.

I did not put pre out at her house last fall or this spring but wanted to try and get it in shape from here on out.

Kinda late for the pre but you could do simazine over the whole yard and spot treat with msm. Unless you have a very bad broadleaf problem and you can mix them together and do the whole property.

If you do Msm and Simazine the mix is .5 grams of msm with 32 mls of simazine per one gallon of water.

You the man Ronk! One applicator in North Carolina was treating his centipede lawns with Dismiss, MSM, and Certainty. I had never heard of that combo and seems pretty aggressive for as sensitive as centipede is.
