What about lemon grass? I was told to plant some around our pool for mosquitoes.

I live in a neighborhood but my lot backs up to a greenspace. About 80' wide and no standing water behind me, but some pine trees and brush. We have a pool/hot tub and in the summer the hot tub is almost unbearable because of the mosquitos.
I've been thinking about either a misting system or the backpack method for years. About to pull the trigger on this setup:

I'm also thinking if I'm going to spend $800 on a DIY setup why not just spend a couple thousand and have the misting system installed. I don't mind shelling out the $$$ if it works. The biggest issue I have is that I have woods behind me- I can't kill everything but hopefully slow them down from coming in my yard.
Any thoughts from the board?

Our house backs up to a some green space in the form of a drainage easement (although there is no standing water). Things we do that I think keep mosquitos ans other bugs at bay are this:
1. Treat the yard with insecticide
2. Put up solar lights on the fence around the perimeter of the yard to help draw them away from the house at night.
3. Run the ceiling fan.
It’s not perfect but it’s not bad at all. I’d consider fogging but none of my neighbors do and no one is fogging the woods behind my house so it doesn’t seem like that would help anything for very long.

Add me to the camp of Spartan traps didn't work.
I have a dyna trap now that works pretty well in a fenced back yard. Proof is in the pile of bugs in that thing every time i open it up I'd put one of those in your yard and a thermocell or two on your patio.

The $700 stihl one is quality compared, but it’s all about where you want to start and willing to lose if the cheap ones crap out on you.
The little Stihl one isn't bad either. SR200 runs $400 and for a homeowner is plenty. 4-year warranty through the extra $13 for the mixing oil and it's a no brainer.
