I was helping my little brother install floors and noticed some small black mold spots on the drywall under a couple windows. He just scrubbed them with bleach and caulked the windows. My worry is since it was on the drywall it is surely inside the wall as well. What would you do?

Probably scrub it away.
Why would you assume it is in the wall?

This is Louisiana. Everyone has mold they just can’t see it.

Probably just on the surface, did the drywall seem like it was wet all the way through?

Remove it... fix the obvious leak.

Your concerns are correct. You never use bleach on mold. You need an antimicrobial. Plus, there is a reason why there is mold. Water is getting behind the drywall somewhere.

Bruh the mold doesn’t identify as black

Clorox will only mask the problem.
Where is the mold coming from and clorox will only kill the mold on the surface.

Buy a moisture meter for ~$15 at Lowe’s or Home Depot and probe the sheetrock from the window sill to the baseboards.
Anything over 15-20% moisture needs to be removed and the leak fixed before replacement.
If no moisture, it’s just surface contamination and should be cleaned, checked regularly and maintained intact.

Mold forms where there is moisture.
The “toxic black mold” stuff is mainly a bunch of BS.
I worked with one of the top fungus experts in the world.

Bleach is mostly water.
Anti-microbials are the answer. Foster 40-80, Concrobium, et alia are formulated specifically to kill molds and fungi. Bleach is not specifically formulated to kill either.

Not all mold is toxic and sometimes it really is just surface mildew which is often mistaken for mold.
Crazy how scared people are of mold considering to have actual toxic mold is fairly rare.

If holding an LA State Board of Contractors license for Mold Remediation makes me a badass, so be it

Also, the cause of the surface contamination could be simple condensation. The window may be leaking hot air into the home and where it meets the cold air of the interior of the house, condensation forms on the walls.
Condensation, in most cases, results in surface contamination.

Because the active ingredient, sodium hypochlorite, is highly toxic retard.
Bleach is an anti microbial, a cheap and effective one at that.

Bad information
Or there is moisture getting on the surface from the windows.
Walk into a house in LA that hasn't had an A/C ran all Summer and you will see tons of "surface mold" AKA mildew.
People often mistake mildew for mold.
