Milorganite. As good as advertised?

I’ve heard nothing but good things about this fertilizer. Tried to find it around my area but it’s sold out at all my local stores.
Any of you use it? If so, is it worth it?

By all accounts, it is a very good fertilizer. But, you know what it is made from, right?

It’s very good for an organic fertilizer mostly because it contains iron. The N-P-K isn’t crazy so you can’t burn your lawn.
Apply at double the bag rate once every 2-3 months.
I’ve been using purely organics lawn food which is a Ringer Clone. I like it better because it doesn’t stink like Milo does. It’s smells like a brewery instead. However, you have to supplement with iron if you want that blue green look.
ETA: Milorganite no longer uses the organic moniker, but I did for ease of use.

The reason Milorganite is as popular right now is that it's hard to eff your yard up with it. You can't burn it.
Smells like poo poo though.

No, use a feed store fertilizer. Way cheaper and you will see better results overall. Milo, is really for people with tiny yards or unlimited budgets. I tend to use 36-0-0 for the season with 0-0-60 for the soil health.

Milo is only $15 for a 32 lb bag, not bad imo. Has worked well for me so far.

1. Milo isn’t expensive at $12-15 per 32lbs bag, but yes you can get some soybean feed which is the same as Ringer essentially for much cheaper.
2. If you’re using a 36-0-0 you better be locked tight on your application rates because you WILL burn your lawn with a little mistake.

Milorganite is my go-to for both my lawn and my garden; slow release, doesn’t burn, has iron. What’s not to like? Add in lime and I’m GTG for the season.

Milorganite also provides other essential nutrients that the synthetic fertilizers do not.
I use milorganite to supplement my go to fertilizer. It works. it is safe. It is cheap.
The issue with synthetic fertilizers likes Scotts, Loveland, Vigoro, etc. is they don't provide all the nutrients needed for whole plant health. They pretty much provide what is necessary to push growth only. This leads to high growth rates that need much more water than a healthy plant would.
The synthetics definitely have their place. It isn't an all or nothing situation but the organics/natural based fertilizers are a lot easier to get good results with for the average home owner.

Agreed. Synthetics do have their place, and I do love my miracle-grow tomato plant food for a little turbo-boost after transplant.
